not quite true when you say the fraud action line can't do anything as there's no financial loss. they can't open a case BUT...... We have to report every single number, text, email we get that we suspect to be scam to an organisation run by our government and that then works in the background to help stamp out this growing crime wave. It does nothing being smart on the phone with then or telling them were to go. as soon as they realise you know what they're at, they just move on to someone who is less versed. If we don't report everything, it's only the number or email, then nothing can happen. Us being clever with them just feeds their desire to skint us.
Text message trying to get me to click on a link and pretending to be from a bank
Several similar calls claiming to be BT Technical Department. Usually Asian accent . I usually respond joke-ingly like Charlie Drake, "Oh, stop mucking about, we both know you're not from BT". They then ring off. On one occasion I said I hadn't got a computer and he went berserk calling me a liar! Keep them going for as long as you feel like it - they're paying for the call. I just feel sorry for those who still fall for this.
Had countless different numbers calling me and my partner, when asked where they are calling from i get something mumbled, it started yesterday morning and is still going on it got to the point where i lost my temper and said a few swear words to which i got a reply saying today is gonna be your last day on this earth.
I’ve just had the same guy call with the same bullshit! He then tried calling 2 more times, from 2 other numbers from 2 different areas 🤣🤣🤣 Do one mate! Lol
01261376013 Called. I was making bacon and eggs. Foreign sounding caller wanted me to go to my computer. I said It is not on, takes a couple of minutes to boot up, give me a minute to start it up. Meanwjhile I put the phone down on the kitchen counter and got on with my eggs and bacon, toast for a terirffc triple fried egg and chilli chutney and bacon sarnie. Forgot he was there, so I just put the phone down ( must have been 4 or 5 minutes! The chav phones me back. I picked up and put phone down immediately. He calls again! He was upset - why did I put the phone down on him? I said I had used the time once PC on to check out his calling number and found it was flagged as fake, fraud. He argued for ages, Finally got rid of him as he was threatening all sorts of reprisals! Happy days. Wind up the scammers and waste their time ... I even had one asian girl say at the end "Ha! At least I wasted your time and you have a huge phone bill now as I back charged you!!!!" I checked with BT immediately and it was all a lie... Trust these callers as far as you can throw them.
But where are the overseas call centres based? OK, they could be from Leicester, Bradford etc.
They said I had put in an order to be paid from my HSBC account (I dont have one) and kept me on hold for several hours
What's going on with Ammanford in these comments above I is confused bus it
They get you to open your laptop and take you to a place where genuinely and unimportant corrupt files live - they might have a mark against them. They say they can talk you through removing them - for a fee so you either pay £200 to remove files that don't need removing or they will get you to give them remote access - they then can take over your laptop any time they like. DO NOT EVER DO THIS - or on your phone.
These are Indian call centres that fake BT and Amazon. Idea is to get you onto a PC and download TeamViewer which gives them control of your PC, they will then ask you to log in to your bank or will ask for payment to fix your viruses. Watch YouTube Always HangUp
These call centres are in India using a VPN service which gives random UK landline and cell phone numbers. You will always hear a bleep when you answer and before they talk. So you will never be able to call back. Best just hang up
Don’t know if I have been contacted by this number yet. But thanks to sites like this and people reporting their experiences am great fully able to block in advance. For-warned is For-armed 👍
