Exactly the same experience as everyone else but checked here immediately. I suspect a small percentage of those who are rung respond to the call which unfortunately keeps these people in business.. Surely the public should be able to find out who pays for the use of these numbers.

Got a call - one ring then caller hung up. Called back and heard start of message about "Win one thousand pounds..." I hung up. As it's 0844, will be charged for the call - NOT HAPPY!!!
