Usual general greeting, stated was from energy supplier and someone was coming out on 13th October to change our meter. When asked several times which supplier stated British Gas. Obviously we are not with them. Told him to do one!

Said he was called "James" from EDF and gave me a date and time he was coming to check my electric meter as it wasn't giving out signal, when asked was this authorised by head office he said "ok then" and hung up

Contacted by telephone claiming to be from our electricity supplier, E.on, to make an appointment to change our electricity meter. The conversation started with, "Hello, ma'am, how are you doing today?" which is generally a red flag. They did have quite a few of the details correct, but somehow the whole conversation sounded "off". I told them I would contact E.on direct and put the 'phone down. E.on confirmed my suspicion: there was no note on our account to change the meter. E.on have now put a password on our account: anyone calling from or authorised by E.on will quote this password to prove they're legitimate. Ask your utility provider if they can do this too!
