Legit! I messaged their official chat line and they confirmed it. To be safe though, always call the number for fraud line on their website.
It's a genuine call from capital one, but like most financial institutions their behaviour is similar to scammers asking for personal details without a proper way to verify that they are actually your financial institution. They also send texts asking you to call random numbers, which are genuine in this case, but scammers send similar texts asking you to call scam numbers you can't easily tell the difference. So it's always best to just hang up, find the correct number yourself and call it (don't call the number they give you).
I recently applied for a Capital One credit card but my application was unsuccessful, which Capital One confirmed by email. About a week later, I received a call from the number 0115 773 6663 claiming to be from Capital One. The caller said she would ‘process my application’ and that I would receive a credit card within 3–4 days. She asked for my date of birth, postcode, email address, which bank I use, and the reason for my application. After checking, I now assume this was fraud.
It's legitimate. Capital One Fraud Prevention Team. Initially called and when I didn't answer I quickly received a text asking me to call an 0800 number. I'd just used my card for a purchase in Austria and they were checking that it was a genuine transaction.
From capital one Fraud team. They sent a message saying there was a payment on my account, which there was which wasn’t me. I sent a text back saying fraud and they rang me with all my recent purchases dates and prices asking to confirm that these were legitimate. They confirmed my card has been cancelled and they will block payments to Amazon subscription (as this is what the person tried to do) but really helpful and legit
The number already came up on my phone as scam. They did say it was from capital one but they refused to tell me the reason and kept saying they need my details first. Usually a bank tells you the reason for the call so it seemed like a spam caller
Capital One - genuine call from their fraud team. Missed the call but called back on the number on the back of the card and they confirmed this was genuine.
I too had dealings with capital one on this number, and it was legit. They helped me block an unknown payment.
Replied “fraud” to a capital one text, when called he was able to confirm my transactions and help with the fraud
Asked for a call back but left the voicemail running for 10 minutes with only eary white noise
She address me by my name, said she's calling about my card that ends **** mentioned the last 4 digits of my card, and I asked her what is it about, she said she can't discuss it on the phone and asked for my date of birth, I said I'm not happy to share my personal details and she said I can call them back using the number at the back of the card. What I don't get is why she can't give the purpose of the call, if it's for payment verification, I usually do it on the app. I answered the call cos I thought it has something to do with my recent Amazon transaction. I can't recall the company name she mentioned but definitely not from the credit card company
Legitimate, after I accidentally cancelled my transaction got phone call about fraud, sort out no problem, very helpful tbh
legitimate capitol one call in relation to fraud prevention - they asked for a few details like postal code, expery date on card and DOB No where near enough detail to be a scam. They then told me each of my recent transactions asking me to confirm if they were made by myself or not.
The call came from Capital one, it followed a text message regarding a payment query. The payment wasn't made by me so clicked fraud. But as I was performing at an event I never received the call till later. The message left said to call an 0800 number or the number on the back of the card.
