Just rang npower, the lady l spoke said she knew nothing about this number and to ignore it do not give any info.
They claim to be an agency collecting meter readings on behalf of my energy provider. They asked for my address, which I didn't give, but they were able to verify my identity by just giving the meter reference number (which I thought was probably ok).
They are a legit number calling on behalf of npower asking for meter readings for safety checks. They are more of a nusance as they usually ring a week or so after I have given my readings online. I usually say get the readings from my account if you really need them as I'm not going to provide them again as my meters are not easily accessible to give a reading there and then. They usually say they'll ring back but they either never do or I miss the call as they never leave a message.
Called from this number today and woman claimed to be Good Energy and wanted a meter reading. When I challenged woman claimed again to be from Good Energy. I said I don't provide meter readings to third parties but direct to Good Energy. She said ok, I hung up. So... What do they really want?
Npower have no idea who called me and made it very ear that they don't phone up for metre readings and that it's the customer,a responsibility. They informed me it could be a data collection company...but why say they are from Npower when they aren't? I don't trust this number.
I was called at 6.30pm in the evening. She claimed to be from Npower and wanted a metre reading. When I said I'd do it later that night when I got home she said she needed it as well and she'd ring back in half an hour. When I asked why she didn't seem to know...just that they need alternative metre readings once every six months. Seemed very strange to me and I had no way of knowing she was actually from N Power. So I'm going to ring N power and see what's going on!
This time the caller claimed to be from Good Energy and wanted a meter readings. I explained I had emailed one in the last few days and he could get it from his colleague Rebecca. He promptly lost interest. I am sure he is not with Good Energy and this is some kind of identity theft, phishing attack or other scam (based on one comment above it could be charging for missed appointments).
This company ring on behalf of your energy provider to upgrade your meters to the new smart meters which transmit your meter readings and install an indoor reading to help you used your energy more wisely. They will call back 3 days before my app to confirm that we will be in otherwise there will be a charge for missed app.
