I've posted my cv on various job agency sites in the last month, I'm certain they sell the phone number on to third parties .as I now get spam calls on a daily basis,

Spam caller - they call with one ring and hang up in the hope you'll call back so they can smash you for premium rate billing. Clever but shystery.
