Scam!!! Caller said they were from hsbc fraud & asked me if i had made 2 transactions on line to john lewis & argos.i said no so the caller said not to worry as they had been stopped by the fraud dept. I was asked to verify myself through' my voice is my password' which i did then i asked the caller who said her name was amy,to verify that she was hsbc by telling me a recent credit that had gone to my credit card account. The line went dead so i phoned hsbc fraud who said that they had mot called me. I cancelled my telephone voice activation & went to go on to my mobile app. The following message made me shake! Your mobile banking has been deactivated as it is now on another device!!! I phoned hsbc again in a panic & changed my pass details. To do this i received a text code from the same number that i had received a code 20 minutes earlier. I changed my pass details & asked the bank to put a message on my account about the situation. What do I think happened? Amy called me -Not from HSBC, my voice was taped for someone else to get into my telephone banking who phoned the bank asking to change pass details, so that is why i received the text with a code. If I had relayed that code, Amy's accomplice would have given that to HSBC & then been able to take over my mobile banking. I hate to think what would happen next!!! Dont talk to anyone who calls you from this number, phone the bank yourself!!!
This is a scam/fraudulent telephone number pretending to be HSBC. If you receive a call from this number do not share any details and end the call. Phone HSBC on their official number 0345 740 4404 instead if you have any concerns regarding your account.
***FRAUD*** I bank with HSBC... I had a call from a man saying that he was from my bank's fraud department and they had noticed some unusual spending on my account... a payment of £37 something in Staples, Cardiff. I'm not in Cardiff and I have my card. He asked me for my IB number (personal ID number - not my bank account or sort code) to check who I was. I then asked him how do I know he's from my bank? He asked me to Google 'hsbc card fraud detection number ' and sure enough the number he called from popped up... I clicked into the page Looks like HSBC and there's the number again... Hummmm... He asked if I had the card in my possession... yes Have I given my card details out to anyone... no Have I responded to any of these scams such as the one from HMRC saying I owe money... no - never! I asked him to verify himself by telling me if I made any transactions on Saturday... He said he wasn't able to because he's not allowed to give away any personal banking information to me... really?! I took his name... probably fake. He said I have not asked you for any personal details like your account number or sort code and you can see the fraud number online Google search... I have only asked for your personal identification number... I'm really not comfortable with this, but provided the number. He asked me to go to my account, but not sign in... just go to the personal ID page... I did this on line No he wanted me to use my mobile banking App and then generate a secure key code that he could use to prove that I am in possession of my mobile... Duh! Really?! Oh and he wanted to know the name of my first school... I guess he'd got in as far as my security questions as I'd given him my ID number. Argh.... he's trying to access my account while on the phone to him. What a clever little trickster. I was very polite and explained that I was not comfortable with any of this and I would call HSBC using my own channels... Needless to say they haven't been calling me and there are no suspicious transactions. It's all been reported to HSBC...
Text followed by phone call saying HSBC fraud asked if I had used my card for just eat. I said that I had not and then asked for security details which I refused. Then was told that my card would be stopped.
This is fraud- they called pretending they are HSBC but it is NOT HSBC - this is fraud trying to defraud your bank account!!
Claimed to be from HSBC Fraud Team concerning 'compromised' activity on bank account. Asked for details of account security and when challenged said the number he was calling on could be checked on Google. Rang bank who stopped online activity but thought it not necessary to stop debit card. Caller rang back after three days and as I recognised the number I refused to speak and said I would check with bank. When I did I was told that the account was secure so I waited for new secure key to arrive and rang again, two days later. When key was activated I found that transactions had taken place in Dubai, using card (?). Bank then blocked card and replaced monies so presumably all is now well for me but BE WARNED - THIS IS A SCAM
wanting my account details saying there from hsbc.
Said she was from fraud office Hsbc. This number is on hsbc Web site.
0345 600 8891 ***** Fraud please be careful !!!*****pretending to be HSBC fraud team trying to scam using a DPD delivery fraudulent email then pretending they are a fraud team saying there’s been suspicious activity on your account
It is absolutely DEFINITELY a legitimate number for HSBC fraud team. I know that (1) because I just called them and they flagged actual suspicious activity and (2) because the number is listed on the HSBC Fraud website: https://www.hsbc.co.uk/help/security-centre/received-a-text/
I am afraid PeaceQuiet Warwick UK is right. First call gives detail of genuine HSBC fraud dept. Subsequent call will give a fake number looking similar to the one you remember is legitimate. Well done fraudsters, you're raising your game !
Yes its genuinely HSBC, they rang my mobile and then my home phone when I didnt answer, they quoted my last 2 transactions and I verified them without any giving any crucial security away.
Having been in doubt on receiving the call I hung up and phoned HSBC directly (using the number on the back of my card). It is a genuine number.
03456008891. I have received a call from "HSBC Fraud", no number- I was informed Alarm over a transaction. "Thank you I shall visit my own branch"- and hanged up. HSBC Fraud texted 03456008891 as the number to call. I see this in two ways: 1- this is genuine 2- this is the real proper scam. Stage one: call and claim to be HSBC- even though most obviously will not trust. Stage two: text the right HSBC number- we will catch them next time we call because all they will remember is that HSBC Fraud is genuine when it's not. How I keep safe: I Only trust numbers I dial and I can confirm with business website it claims to belong to. I pay close attention wilts looking for familiar pointers. Voice, options for specific services, order of words, the music in the background... If not sure I put the phone down and visit my local branch. Conned or not I make sure i pursuit it becasue the downfall can have some terrible consequences. Here is my story: I was in India when my assistant received similar message. Even though I had informed the bank well in advance of my travelling plans, even though I had some currency arranged by the bank. Even though my assistant confirmed I was right I the business owner was in India on business and i was right my card was used in Dubai airport and in India in less than 36 hours apart, HSBC proceeded with ordering a bar on my card. I was left stranded in Tiruvanamalai without any access to cash. HSBC travel insurance asked me to travel to Chennai to have it sorted out. I rung the branch and the bank Clark did not have the foggiest idea as to how his little bank was going to deliver my English money delivered by him to me in India? I've never felt so vulnerable. Fortunately I was indirectly associated with a Sage and his name alone lead to some trust with a 18-21 young Pakistan shop owner who just offered to lend me all the money I needed for my stay in India with a mere verbal commitment to pay him back upon my return to the UK. I've gained a friend there but the whole situation could have ended horribly. HSBC APOLOGISED but repeated the antics a year later when I was on business in Portugal. Now I travel with Barclays. I just wanted to share my story with you which may offer you some ideas on how to protect yourself financially while abroad. HSBC will have you killed raped thrown in jail, for their idea of "protection". Finally: If you are not a HSBC customer you may not know what is the authentic voice and background music. I would suggest you go on HSBC website pick up a random telephone number for you to ring. If you are like my mum who is hard at hearing is best you seek support of a trusted friend/relative to confirm that the two of you are hearing the voice, music and wording and whether these familiar markers make a perfect match with markers offered by the number you have been texted over by HSBC-Fraud. REMEMBER: 1- dial the numbers yourself or witness it being dialled. 2-Be clear that to have the authenticity of the number YOU DO NOT NEED to hand over any bank card, password, pins or details to anyone. If in doubt VISIT YOUR BRANCH. Hope my experience is of some helps to the reader. PeaceQuiet Tantra Temple Warwick 07766890826
