I can confirm this - I was making a MoneyGram payment for the first time and the HSBC system thought this suspicious so blocked my card; they called to enquire about the transaction without reference to my account details, then cleared the card again which I have now used to send the money successfully. Although the last time they blocked my card was a real PITA, this time it has been very useful.
I was suspicious and it was a genuine HSBC Fraud department number.
Fruad department of HSBC, for real!
I had a call from an Indian lady who was unable to pronounce my company name and so I terminated the call. I then received a text to ring the above number and after checking the number on this site decided that it was ok to call. After holding for a while I spoke to another Indian lady and the conversation we had made me confident that this is a legitimate number.
This is legitimately HSBC fraud department. In response to Alan above I have unfortunately had to deal with them before and I learned that the fraud department is totally isolated from all the branches - to prevent insiders from finding out that they have been discovered etc. This is why if you ever ask in a branch they will not know about it.
Got a text message to ring 03456008891 or 01470697005 about my HSBC credit card being used Fraudulently. I did ring one of the numbers and it went to a call center in India. The girl sounded very convincing but things did not seem right. I did not give any personal information or credit card numbers . I then rang my local bank and explained what had happened and they checked my personal and business credit cards with HSBC fraud department and told me everything was fine and i should ignore any text that came to me. They did not recognize any of the telephone numbers or reference numbers that were sent to me . So i would definitely say that this is a SCAM i did go on line and checked out the 0147 number and it is an isle of sky number I do not know how Neil or Paulclark42 can say that it is HSBC fraud department because it is NOT.
It is HSBC, the fraud department.
I also had a call from this number leaving me a message asking to call back a different number (all they did was change one diget from 3 to 8 on the second number). I rang HSBC as I don't bank with them and neither of the numbers are their fraud team - was advised to not give out any information if I have any more calls.
Number claimed to be HSBC, when I questioned them they said they would call me back ? I have no proof it was HSBC but seems strange ?
