TLDR; even Amazon genuine customer support can sound like scammers with multiple red flags 🚩by being unprofessional and uninformed and badly trained. It's not accessibility friendly but using the chat in the app is your best bet to know you are actually talking to Amazon. It was genuinely Amazon but beware number spoofing!! It was last mile incident response team who called me out of the blue but Ayoub was so badly trained that there were multiple red flags and he sounded like a scammer. Firstly, he didn't know my name. Secondly, he said I couldn't talk to Amazon and call them myself to see if the call was genuine🚩. He kept asking for personal details and would not provide anything other than calling for a vague reason. He sent a push notification to my app, but his notification did not match with his location, not even the same country and the push notification doesn't have much information. He also lied saying that Amazon wouldn't be able to verify and that I wouldn't be able to call any other number to deal with this, which is not true.I requested a call back via the app and she was able to verify that the call was genuine. What made him sound even more like a scammer is when I asked what happens if I do nothing and he said that he would keep emailing and calling me repeatedly. I said it was harassment and he said it was not. I then called them back and spoke to a more competent woman who was able to help me understand what was going on with the emails that they were sending me and the phone call. She was able to provide information of things that she would not have known if she was a scammer. I asked to speak to the manager to address this issue because their staff should not be sounding like scammers and verification should work. (I was very suspicious because I do use accessibility settings for disability apps that can see everything on my screen) Turns out they don't have any department for dealing with complaints and all they can do is add it to your case number to maybe look into. Very odd for a company this size. They also have no policy for protecting you against the item swap scam where the weight of your high value item that requires a code is swapped out somewhere along the way with low value items to match the weight such as sugar, printer paper and car fluid. You can see this has been going on for years it's all over Reddit the BBC and Which? Consumer organization. Some delivery drivers will allow you to open the box before handing over the code being aware of the scam others will not and will cancel your delivery preventing you from a re delivery the same day after contacting customer service. You will also get reported should you want to use a knife to open the package in front of the driver, so be ready with tape and very good scissors. And film everything (preferably from 2 sources) because many have not been refunded after being scammed because they gave the code to the driver and they have no proof, the proof may be something to send to your bank for a chargeback should Amazon not care you have proof. Or simply don't buy high value items from Amazon and get them from a local physical store if you can. The more people send packages back that the driver wouldn't allow you to check if you're being scammed the more likely Amazon will notice and actually have a policy 2+years later. You see news stories like these (brushing scam is a different parcel scam) Amazon one-time passwords: customers report item thefts and parcels being switched "I sent multiple emails to Amazon, and they essentially concluded that they were not responsible because I had given the one-time pass code to the driver," he said." More than 40 people got in touch with the BBC in response to the story of a Salisbury man whose £1,400 camera and lens was swapped for cat food. After the BBC published a story in January about how a man was sent dog food by Amazon instead of the iPhone he ordered, dozens of readers have been in touch with similar complaints.Once again disabled customers who can't get to shops are put at the worst risk point.

This is a genuine Amazon number, I took a callback from it yesterday. That doesn't mean it cannot be spoofed.

Did not know the caller I answered with caution and did not speak as the caller also didn't speak. I called the number back from landline to hear that the number is temporarily unavailable. I was expecting a important call from amazon yesterday 9th Dec 2023. If this is amazon as everyone else is suggesting I suppose amazon are going to act like they tried to call. Snidey way to call people remaining silent and not introducing themselves so they don't have to resolve problems with third party sellers.

They rang twice at 6.57 am but we didn't hear it. When we got up, we saw we had 2 messages on our answerphone. We played them and it sounded as if we were being put through to a doctor or consultant. We were concerned because one of us had a hospital appointment later that day. It wasn't until I checked the number on my computer, that I realised it was either Amazon or a scam by someone using their number.

We contacted Amazon about a delivery and asked for a call back. This number was used by Amazon customer services to call us straight back to process a refund. But scammers can pretend to be Amazon by cleverly showing this number on your phone. Unless you just contacted Amazon then it may be a scammer. Amazon didn't ask for any account or bank details in our conversation ask we had contacted them through the app.

It is Amazon as I contacted customer service and they as called back via this number. The trouble is there so many scam calls using the network through abroad routers you automatically assume that these are scamming scummers especially if they have an aisian accent as most of the scammers are based in India. Check out Jim Browning on YouTube he is brilliant at taking these peoples people down.

THIS IS NOT A GENUINE AMAZON CALL. I was contacted to tell me that I needed to update my debit card details. My card had just recently expired, so it seemed genuine. There was a link to update my new card details and I had to go through the usual security checks. It didn’t acknowledge my date of birth, so gave me a number to call. I have watched a number of episodes of Spam Interceptors and this call was almost the same format as the examples I have seen - asking too much information (which they should already have), not understanding my problem, too many “please hold the line” and we repeatedly saying that I am here to help you - all the format of scammers. Watch Spam Interceptors (BBC) - it showed me how to detect a scammer and if in doubt, phone the company directly (not their number).
