Lady called to say my Vodafone contract was coming up for renewal, and they could offer a deal with increased benefits. I said I'd phone Vodafone nearer the renewal date.
Sadly Ofgem decided to transfer me back to British Gas when my supplier ceased trading - A double blow! Reading the comments on this page. Why am I not surprised this is to do with British Gas, which I left because I got fed up with these calls. The moment I left them they all stopped. Rightly so I would be very suspicious of a cold call from a number not associated with British Gas. and unsurprising they hung up the moment they got the message service and didn't leave a message
Woman called this morning claiming to be from British Gas to set up direct debit following transfer from another provider and asked for my bank details to do this. I initially refused and asked them for more details to confirm that they were who they claimed to be; after they confirmed details including recent meter readings I relented but panicked afterwards in case I'd been scammed and looked up this number. I phoned British Gas who confirmed the time of the call, the woman's name and that she had been one of their agents, and that my account details had been updated that morning in line with the information I had given. So despite my concerns, this is definitely not a scam.
You’re probably the scammer trying to keep the scam alive
It's a fairly sophisticated scam. The caller claimed to be from British Gas and asked for my bank account details in order to transfer my energy from my old supplier (which went bust) to BG. I hung up and called British Gas, who confirmed that there has been no activity on my account for several weeks, and asked me to report this number to my mobile network provider.
This is British Gas. They gave me details of the account including my balance without me giving them any info.
At first I didn’t believe that it was British Gas calling me but after they sent me an email from an address ending in ... britishgas . co . uk and gave me the last 4 digits of my account number I was convinced that it was them. Helped me with an issue I had with my meter readings and also got a direct debit setup for me, only needed my account number and sort code which seemed alright cause they can’t make any purchases with that online or make any unexpected payments. Told me that there was a good fixed tariff that they are offering so I took down the details for it and looked around the market for anything better, unfortunately I couldn’t find any better deals that what they were offering me so I went with it and it popped up on my application within a few hours so definitely not scammers, helped me save some money in the long term as well.
Same as reported, said was BG and wanted to do a DPA check. Didn't do it and explained they called me! Seemed bit suspect as asked for account number - I laughed and said - can you tell me yours? Suffice to say ended the call! Merry Christmas!
I recently had a phone call purporting to be British Gas regarding my change to that energy supplier. I became suspicious and the call was ended abruptly by the caller. After checking with British Gas I became convinced the call was not genuine. 01482293886 was the number I was called by
Claimed to be British Gas calling to "welcome me as a new customer", as I recently transferred when my power provider went bust. (true, I was switched from PfP to British Gas). But it didn't sound legit so I gave them a "more convenient" time to call me back (which they didn't do). So just chalking it up to a scam of some description & blocked the number
Same as others .Caller said they were from British Gas wanting to confirm my details because my previous supplier finished. Can't BG SORT THEM OUT.
A lady rang me today saying she was from British Gas she had my new BG account No & Sales order number. she wanted me to set up my Direct Debit which I said I would do online if she gave me the amount I should set it up for. I gave her my meter reading so she could calculate this and she knew that my previous meter reading was submitted on 4/10 so if it is a scam it's a good one and has access to our info !
Just had a call from this number, said they were British Gas, wanted me to set up a direct debit, told them to send the direct debit mandate to the address they had on file, then hung up
Claims to be from British Gas asking for personal details. Didn’t give any and blocked the number.
