Claimed to be from British Gas. Caller was aware of my name and that my energy account had been taken over by BG. He then asked me to confirm security details which I refused to do as he'd called me. He seemed completely unaware that what he was doing was the same technique used by scammers. When he began arguing with me I hung up.
Called from "British Gas", before they would tell me what the call was about I had to answer some questions for data protection. Could I please confirm my full name, address and date of birth. Not a chance, I suppose the follow up question would have been what is my mothers maiden name, the name of my first pet and my first school. Reported to ICO as my number is on the TPS
Got a call from this number saying they were British Gas and wanted to confirm our details. When I queried and asked if we could call them back the caller hung up. Very suspicious.
Claimed to be British Gas, but I was suspicious. Gave away no information except confirming my name.
Women Called me today saying they were from British gas. Tried to get me to set up a direct debit
I think this is a quite-sophisticated scam. They called saying they were British Gas and were asking about a transfer of accounts (obviously a lot of people have been affected by this recently). They were trying to get me to confirm my details (and they already had part of my address). Foolishly I gave them my name and house number before realising something didn't feel quite right. They said I had to confirm my details with them, but they couldn't tell me my account number or set up anything online, etc. Don't trust!
Not a spam. Received a call this morning from the same number to setup DD with British Gas. I was expecting BG to call, since PfP was taken over by BG on 24th Sept. I told Vanessa I'll do it online. But as I was setting it online I couldn't setup DD as it required me to enter readings which in turn it asked me to change the frequency of my smart meter (7y old) and that could not be done for some reason. I called BG direct number, but they couldn't help, but added a note on my account and transferred me to billing dept - I gave up after 30min of waiting. I then called back 01482293886 and asked Vanessa to read the last comment on my account left by a previous BG person. She did and it was matching. She setup my direct debit. Only asked for the sortcode and account number - (I was not going to give any more details anyway - e.g card number, date/number). She then asked me how much I would like to pay (estimating £146/m) and which day. I then refreshed my online account and the DD was setup. I still have to sort out meter readings with the billing dept. between 9:00-17:00
Probably a scammer trying to get bank details.
Unknown number so didn't answer but since I was recently switched to British Gas when supplier went bust likely same scam as other comments report here.
Didn't recognise the number so allowed to go to answer. As with most scammers they didn't leave a message. Most legit callers do.
Had a call saying they were from British Gas offering an exclusive tariff and to set up a direct debit over the phone. Contacted BG and it isn't them, they would never ask to set up a direct debit over the phone.
I’ve had similar experiences to others. Very suspicious. Will be checking with British Gas.
Iv just had the same call from the same number. Asked for my address so they could set up payment on my British Gas account. I asked whether I could do it through the app she confirmed not for the first payment so I said I didn’t have time to talk and asked her to call me back. Going to live chat British Gas and ask whether it is them.
Said from BG and wanted me to confirm my details when I said id not give any details but happy to confirm if she told me she then said a name that wasn't mine and when I said I don't know who that is the line went dead
Same for me. My supplier went bust so I was moved to BG. Caller was asking for all my personal details, I told him to tell me what he has on record & I would confirm. He said he couldn't do that. Then said I'm on variable tariff likely to go up, however I have an email from BG guaranteeing the price until at least April 2022. Seemed a spam call to me
