Being a retired hypnotist I had the skill to force the man on the phone to start talking the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. He then admitted that he was a professional thief and that his aim was to empty all my bank accounts and take ownership of my home. I therefore declined his demands and told him to take a holiday somewhere where the sun doesn't shine. He asked if I had any brochures relating to such places, forcing me to tell him to 'go away' - using an internationally known two-letter phrase.
Called today and immediately hung up when I answered. I've had a spate of these recently.
please stop saying "Asian". Its "Indian" people scamming others around the world so please use the right pointer that the caller sounded "Indian".
They do not have "your number" They just keep trying all (potentially) valid numbers in sequence until one actually connects.
Looked at my phone and saw I had a missed call. As I had a dominos being delivered I thought it might be from them, but glad I checked on here first!
Identity theft isn't a menial crime its serious, I had driving fines court letters and for things I've never done in my life.
Texted me today telling me someone attempted a huge money transfer using Revolut, and to call them if it wasn't me. I don't even use revolut.
Ny phone detected it as possible scam. Let it ring but never answered then came a voicemail message 'we have no agent available at the moment but if you need any help please call back' or something like that. Yeah right lol
Phoned twice while I was in bed as I work nights thanks to your remarks I have blocked them
Same as me me but not had my details stolen as far as I know.
Started receiving calls from '01269 839047' early mornings, after saying hello, it remand silent. I had 3 more calls of the same nature. checked my call history as i recalled having multiple calls weeks ago, an asian sounding man who claimed to be from BT saying that there are issues with my BT service. I've had nothing but problems with my BT services since beening installed!! So i listened to what he had to say (without disclosing the current situation with BT). He tried to tell me that my services were being disconnected at some point that day. I asked why, he garbled something really quickly half in English, half in a foreign language. I asked him to repeat & said i was in credit with my account. He said my bank or bank card may not be working & asked me to confirm my 'full bank account details' & my card number'!!! I was gobsmacked but then realised he hadn't once asked my name or account number. I told him in no uncertain terms that i didn't believe he was calling from BT, he got quite arsy with me & said "this is why the man of house should deal with financial things" i replied with a few choice words and hung up. The calls kept coming for the next 4-6 hours but i ignored them and tried blocking the number. Now, however the calls have started again, with the same area code but the last few digits are different! It flashed up as a SPAM call but i answered anyway...same accent, same script! If they are reading this "Sod off & get a p**sing proper job like the rest of us" x
Pretended to be National Debt Advice. Called me by full name. Started asking about any loands, debts etc. Told them that it's not of their fucking business and they hung up.
A British sounding lady who said "Hello I've had i formation that you were involved in a car accident that wasn't your fault" to which I sternly replied "No". She was apologising when I put the phone down. Very odd. Didn't offer me my name or anything.
Received a call from an Asian man asking me details about my computer. When I asked if he would have sex with me he hung up. I guess he wants flowers and a meal first. He hasn't been in touch since. Sad face emoji!!
Our telephone numbers, be they landline or mobile, do NOT belong to us. They are just assigned to us. Companies, including BT Orange, and Vodaphone etc. 'SELL' off to other people. They still belong to them but the phone numbers are used for ''marketing'! Only numbers but no other information. I am wondering whether this could be seen as an invasion of privacy and should not be done as in some way could be a breach of the Data Protection Act. Someone needs to look into this in-depth. This is leading to harassment. I have many many of these calls and texts every day. None of which are answered but are more than annoying. When you block the call they seem to be able to change the last two digits and it starts all over again.
Love to be able to be quick thinking like a friend who said he was a homocide police detective investigating the recent murder of the person whose phone it was. He asked the caller how long he knew the deceased. When he last saw or spoke to the deceased. β¦. Classic!! I wish I had the quick whit to come up with such a response. πππ All I did was to keep saying βnoβ. Over n over to everything the caller asked or said. Just no! I heard from someone else that they get you to say βyesβ then use that as in a forced contract which they then say you agreed to. So any strange number I might answer I just start answering βnoβ. Or β that is indeed soβ β¦ Aaahh these evil scammers!!!
They can't do anything if u haven't provided information
I'm gonna check out Jim Brown. Regarding mentioning the Indian accent, it is only as from an unknown number, 1st red flag π© then Indian accent = 2nd red flag π©. The first much more helpful than the ignoranmouses who state its an 'Asian accent', Asian what? Chinese? Japanese? Pakistani? Or Indian? Someone said on here "these Indians are so deceitful" to that I say shut your racist bas**ed face, as Americans can be deceitful, so can Englishers, or Germans etc... from a British Indian Chick π₯ BTW I'm gonna wait to block this number, gonna let them go through all thier garbage, record the whole message and at the end let them know I have a degree I can IT and have worked as an ICT corporate security manager. This is before I end the call with a stream of verbal nosh-tock and telling them to get a real job and look up the word morals. π Keep safe kids, don't resort to racism over anything let alone a damned scam call of which we get hundreds in our lifetime. And have a happy good life :-D I'll let you know what happens. Now to Jim Brown
All comments sound like Simon sais. Anybody commerically calling before 9am cannot be of a professional nature.
the worst thing is if the other side doesn't hang up you will get a huge mobile bill. There is help out there, many people are having personal data stolen, hacking takes all shapes and forms.
Clearly a scam. Claimed to be from Curry's/PC World and wanting to offer a deal on a new phone...
I had a similar call saying they were from 03
Yes, about 95% of calls to my mobile are either surveys, scam deals, Amazon, Lifestyle crap or nobody there when answered. Most of the time I just ignore if the number doesn't come up as one of my contacts.
Simply ignore any numbers you donβt recognise
Had a missed call from this number earlier and was able to call back. It was a man with an Indian accent calling about a recent accent ..that i never had!
01269 839047 called claiming to be Peter from BT. Had a lovely chat with Peter about all my problems with BT as a company, opened up my computer doing as he requested and gave him my passwords and bank details. He seemed very happy! I don't have a computer, I'm not with BT and l made up the passwords and bank details off the top of my head! π€£
They are still at it. I was called just now using the same rubbish about computer not working. They hung up when they see I wasnβt up to their tricks.
So what was British Telecom's response? It seems to me that BT should face criminal charges for aiding abetting and FACILITATING criminal fraud via telecommunications, and direct criminal harassment. They've been ignoring these criminals using their facilities in the commission of widescale organised crime for at least 6 years.
If you never gave him any personal info I.e bank details, address DOB etc then Iβd say your pretty safe this person was just phishing & CAB never ring u unless u have been in contact with them.
These scumbags occupy entire floors of run down buildings in New Delhi, Pune and Madras. They sit in booths and a computer with a mug list makes the calls and allocates one of these cockroaches as an operator. They all have basically the same story. There's really no point in kicking off at them it's all in a day's work. The only time I got a rise out of one was after telling him what a great time I had with his sister the night before.
imagine being afraid to say that an indian sounding person was calling from india
steve, you're a dumbass, nobody cares about those details
Answered one of these calls once when my son was up from London. He took over and kept him on for over half an hour. He said that, if he has time, that's what he always does on the basis that whilst he amuses himself he is preventing someone else becoming a possible victim.
Me: Hi it's Daniel (they probably knew that already, I answer all calls that way) Them: Hi this is from *garbled* support, are you looking for contractor roles at the moment? Me: No I'm not looking currently Them: Are you Permanent? Me: I'm not looking currently, sorry Them: Ok bye lmao
I've had same, I asked what their interpretation of debt is, silence !
I must admit, I found it amusing when they called me - I played along for a moment or two asking what the problem may be and whom was calling - Peter said he was from BT, I thanked him for is urgent call and asked if he minded me calling this number from my other phone to verify his identity - he said not a problem - he quickly put the phone down when I just said "thank you - my number may show up strange as I'll be calling from the police station cybersecurity squad" :-) had to giggle..
Today I received a call from this number. its literally a scam, block them
Had a call from this number; as with a number of other comments, started off as a 'genuine' call from 'BT' regarding my internet connection, and my router being somehow compromised, and that he has been told to disconnect remotely my router, as it has been hacked, (Odd that as I am actually in a Hotel) I asked him how he was able to get my telephone number?? as I am ex-directory and on the TPS so my number is off-limits, he got a little confused, didn't seem to know anything about the telephone preferences legislation, I asked him if he was from BT why he didn't know, he got flustered and hung up, (number added to an ever-growing list of blocked barred numbers
Got a call from an Asian woman who started shouting at me cause I wouldnβt switch my computer on , so she could talk me through a bt problem , Iβm not with bt . But she still insisted I switch my computer on so she could HELP me with my pc problem, which I had no problem with my pc as I donβt use it , I use my iPad , I subsequently put the phone down . Didnβt hear from her again , I do t fall for scams like this especially when they are Asian with an English name , but I do try to wind them up then they usually put the phone down as theyβre not getting anywhere .
Hi there, what they do if people fall for it, is they convince You to sit in front of your computer and type in an IP address which will give them remote access, they didnβt place a keylogger on your computer which records every single/you make on the keyboard and records every single site that you look at and can also collect your personal data because they will have access to all of your files
No, they dont have any information that they can use. if they had they would not need to call you. They are just fishing. They randomly generate and call numbers. Anyone can make up a number, just use one of the 5 digit prefixes, then randomly add 7 numbers and you have someone's mobile number. That is why they want to talk and get your name and other details
I received two calls this afternoon on my mobile, but my provider had marked them as suspected spam, so I did not answer. The first call was at 16.44 from 020 8695 4129, the second was at 18.16 from 020 8695 4877. I wish these forms of low life would leave us pensioners alone Ron M
Yes I've received several calls from people claiming to be from the C. A. B..... Not even saying on behalf of them... That that's who they are. I asked "so you are an actual employee of the Citizens Advice Bureau are you? Like you said they then just hang up. I presume surely that by now the C. A. B are, actually aware of this happening?
report the numbers, don't just block. if all you're going to do is block, you'll just end up blocking more and more. REPORT REPORT REPORT
not quite true when you say the fraud action line can't do anything as there's no financial loss. they can't open a case BUT...... We have to report every single number, text, email we get that we suspect to be scam to an organisation run by our government and that then works in the background to help stamp out this growing crime wave. It does nothing being smart on the phone with them or telling them where to go. as soon as they realise you know what they're at, they just move on to someone who is less versed. Block the number by all means but it also does nothing to help the cause. If we don't report everything, it's only a number or email, then nothing can happen. Us being clever with them just feeds their desire to skint us.

Text message trying to get me to click on a link and pretending to be from a bank
Several similar calls claiming to be BT Technical Department. Usually Asian accent . I usually respond joke-ingly like Charlie Drake, "Oh, stop mucking about, we both know you're not from BT". They then ring off. On one occasion I said I hadn't got a computer and he went berserk calling me a liar! Keep them going for as long as you feel like it - they're paying for the call. I just feel sorry for those who still fall for this.
Had countless different numbers calling me and my partner, when asked where they are calling from i get something mumbled, it started yesterday morning and is still going on it got to the point where i lost my temper and said a few swear words to which i got a reply saying today is gonna be your last day on this earth.
Iβve just had the same guy call with the same bullshit! He then tried calling 2 more times, from 2 other numbers from 2 different areas π€£π€£π€£ Do one mate! Lol
01261376013 Called. I was making bacon and eggs. Foreign sounding caller wanted me to go to my computer. I said It is not on, takes a couple of minutes to boot up, give me a minute to start it up. Meanwjhile I put the phone down on the kitchen counter and got on with my eggs and bacon, toast for a terirffc triple fried egg and chilli chutney and bacon sarnie. Forgot he was there, so I just put the phone down ( must have been 4 or 5 minutes! The chav phones me back. I picked up and put phone down immediately. He calls again! He was upset - why did I put the phone down on him? I said I had used the time once PC on to check out his calling number and found it was flagged as fake, fraud. He argued for ages, Finally got rid of him as he was threatening all sorts of reprisals! Happy days. Wind up the scammers and waste their time ... I even had one asian girl say at the end "Ha! At least I wasted your time and you have a huge phone bill now as I back charged you!!!!" I checked with BT immediately and it was all a lie... Trust these callers as far as you can throw them.
But where are the overseas call centres based? OK, they could be from Leicester, Bradford etc.
They said I had put in an order to be paid from my HSBC account (I dont have one) and kept me on hold for several hours
What's going on with Ammanford in these comments above I is confused bus it
They get you to open your laptop and take you to a place where genuinely and unimportant corrupt files live - they might have a mark against them. They say they can talk you through removing them - for a fee so you either pay Β£200 to remove files that don't need removing or they will get you to give them remote access - they then can take over your laptop any time they like. DO NOT EVER DO THIS - or on your phone.
These are Indian call centres that fake BT and Amazon. Idea is to get you onto a PC and download TeamViewer which gives them control of your PC, they will then ask you to log in to your bank or will ask for payment to fix your viruses. Watch YouTube Always HangUp
These call centres are in India using a VPN service which gives random UK landline and cell phone numbers. You will always hear a bleep when you answer and before they talk. So you will never be able to call back. Best just hang up
Donβt know if I have been contacted by this number yet. But thanks to sites like this and people reporting their experiences am great fully able to block in advance. For-warned is For-armed π
A man with an Indian accent said he was from BT & Was going to close my BT internet. I told him that I was going to shut down the brothel his mum & daughters worked in. He got very irate and I laughed and told him his father was a ladyboy & hung up.
These websites are run by the people who make these calls. They use the info you provide them to hone their call techniques. Why else would someone pay to build and mantain a website that provides a free service? Wake up people!

Free boiler replacement and free underfloor insulation. Asked usual random questions, confirm name, address etc. Then asked about benefits. Asked why she wanted to know that and was told that people on benefit automatically qualify. I wouldnβt confirm or deny benefits position. Was still told boiler specialist would be calling me back to discuss.
My nephew had a call about an accident heβd been involved in, he said βwow thatβs quick, they are just cutting me out of the carβ, they hung up. Surely something can be done, the amount of calls are getting ridiculous.
There is also a cultured lady voice which also tries to convince you that you are going to have trouble with internet, that you are about to be raided by the police, if you dont press a number, that customs and excise will be raiding your home if you dont press 1 and speak to a bogus inspector, I try to keep them on as long as possible by pretending hearing loss and get them to speak up or repeat what they have said, eventually they get fed up and put the phone down
Hi Friends In addition to my previous post, I need to add more items. 1. Scammers are able to use, in our case, UK numbers. So even if in Russia, India, USA and etc., the number looks as if its from here, UK. 2. Scammers use mobile phones and numbers - to make you think it is an important call. This is now VERY COMMON. 3. These are scammers, and say the following as examples: - Β£600 has been taken from your card and you have authorised it. If you have not done this, please press 1 on keypad. Obviously, you would never had done, and key 1. Goes to the Scammer gets all your info. Says you have to put money in a safe AC account immediately. Tells you to do it, but the money is being put into Scammers account. You lose ALL THE MONEY in your Account - Scammers say your security has been breached - to immediately stop the issue, transfer the money - SAME AS ABOVE - you will give money to scammers. - You have won Β£500 - They want to give it to you directly into your account Bank Account. You put money into YOUR ACCOUNT. YOU are delighted - and see money into YOUR ACCOUNT, on your computer. Then the scam - he sees your account has Β£5000 NOT Β£500 YOU WON. The scammers says he will be in BIG TROUBLE - MUST RETURN THE Β£4500. You think these things can happen - so happily give the scammer the excess, Β£4500. He assures all will be fine. You being helpful give scammer the money to thinking you have won the Β£500. You give scammer the information to get Scammer's his money - INSTEAD HE TAKES ALL YOUR MONEY IN YOUR LAST PENNY - THEY ARE EVIL. - He profusely apologies, says goodbye with ALL THE MONEY IN YOUR ACCOUNT. IMPORTANT REMINDER - HIS PHONE NUMBER, LOCATION, ETC. ARE ALL FAKE - EXCEPT all money he has taken. Be careful to stay safe
Hi Friends India is very advanced technologically, which makes it easier for them to scam details. The calls are also from other sources - Thailand, USA, UK, Canada, and China, and VERY IMPORTANTLY, RUSSIA. Only small number, but there people are 'evil' - don't care about victims. GENERAL IMPORTANT INFO - there are good people who hate what dcammers do, and do succeed-stop them. - remember GUIDES provided free by good sources like your bank. Most, probably all. They give details about how to stop them, and help you with good results. - written guidance is given by Which? Magazine details. Take time to read and protect yourself - great news and information. A GOOD SOURCE is YouTube - has lot of: - scammers and scammers locations - Scammer-hunters locate them, but can't take any legal action - virtually impossible to identify and prosecute them. - Scammer-hunters expose these people - with good knowledge and understanding the scams - there are 100s or 1000s (+more) of scammers, There is only a low chance of stopping this and the best way to protect yourself, read articles by Which? Magazine and, importantly, advise by bank. In my case, NatWest is great at making people aware of this issue. Please take care. PG
They gain access to your pc in the hope passwords and banking are used on it. They have a lot of ways they try to get you to give the information or they put a key logger on your pc to record your keystrokes.
Had a text from this number asking for redelivery fees of royal mail parcel. It has a link to 'royal mail' sire - very convincing to those unaware of these thieving *****rds text from 07498868863 - another yesterday from other mobile number - I blocked that too. I do actually have a delayed parcel from royal mail and for those not aware of such scams/fraud I am sure would sadly fall for this. Careful folks
01617682483 I have had several call from a Manchester (0161) number over the past months but always report as spam and block. My father was in hospital recently so I have had several unknown and number I do not recognise, but have had to answer. My best advice that works for me is to ignore any unknown numbers and if itβs important βtheyβ will leave a βsensibleβ message?
Received a call from this number this afternoon, 020 3519 1664, and before on 12th March. Caller was a man who sounded Asian, trying to talk to me about insurance. What was concerning he addressed me by my last name. When I asked him to remove my number from his database, he hung up on me. Both numbers have been blocked. Unfortunately they will try with other numbers.
These people are not using phones they are using computers to imitate phone numbers Its called number spoofing
Have had a series of calls from this number. blocked again!!!
Oh my goddess the same people called me and my partner the other day saying theyβre from citizens advice and my boyfriend told me straight away that itβs a scam and to hang up as he was an Indian or Pakistani man with an English name peter or Carl heβs said anyway there scammers and are dangerous.
Fed up of these calls my Father Died recently and since I went to the registrar to report his passing I have been called all the time from different numbers and different companies on my mobile and I have never given my number to anyone other than Friends or relatives before or since so these companies must have a way of getting into there computers which is very worrying indeed
I have had 1 call today form the number above and this number 01413568200 Both saying they were custom and excise and I have would be arrested if I didn't stay on line and talk to them.
No , they do not have your info , they call random numbers and hope to find someone gulible enough to believe them
There is nothing B.T can do about this . The calls are coming from India , they buy a u.k number and use that , or route the calls via the internet to make it look like they are in the U.K . Check out Jim Brown on YouTube
Nice way of dealing with these scammers , they dont know what to do when you react with ''o.k. The aim is to get you to turn on your computer and then they guid you through installing a program that gives them remote access, then they can look at and steal all your personal information . The other thing they can do is lock you out of your own computer using sys key , then they offer to unlock it for a fee but they say that a virus has locked you out , not them . Indian scammers make millions every year from this , they prey on the gulible . Ther is a guy on youtube named JimBrown , he is Irish and he hunts down these people and does what he can to disrupt them
You did the right thing . Its a scam. He would have wanted to gain remote access to your computer , look for bank accounts and other personal details . Block the number
The part about 75% being owned by B.T is maybe correct in terms of them owning the cables that your internet provider rents from them but the rest is garbage . He would have wanted you to load and connect through a thing called ''team viewer'', or another like it , that way he has access to your computer to look for bank accounts and personal details , he could also lock you oput of your computer and basically blackmail you into paying to get access to your computer . Best thing is just hang up on these idiots
Your info is probably intact . These people call random nunbers and then start with the scare tactics , block the number and live a happy life
If the guy rings pretend to put ur computer on then say waiting fir windows to load if he asks what window operating have u got reply with i have lots of windows in my house which one do u want bt would not ring u
Its obvious there are too many scams - why don't the government and councils, with all the money they get from us , regulate these false caller lines?? Petition needed!
Just an advice: do not call back an unknown number if you do not expect any important call. Avoid calling numbers that you find here as they might charge you extra.
When i tried to report this scam to BT they directed me to the fraud action line but they were not able to do anything as no money exchanged hands. you'd have thought that BT should be better at dealing with this as its their name these scammers are using, instead they pass you on to fraud action line. and they can't do anything unless you have been conned out of money. this allows the scammers to continue trying to con others. SHAME ON YOU BT for not investigating.
Ditto to all the above! Apparently my line was being hacked by people in russia! Lol! Asked to speak to manager, obviously same person trying to sound different but a total a**. Said id take it up with bt myself (even though not with bt) goodbye...worse thing for me though was visiting my elderly mother, we had just recently lost my dad. And the same number called her whilst i was there saying they are turning of her internet! I told her it was a scam just close the call! Nasty *?!#@*". Mum was real worried!!
Received a call today from 01212855810 said from life insurance team. Started asking questions regarding life cover and my mortgage. Then asked my date of birth so i hung up. I think it was a scam call.
He might as well have used the name fulla shit would have gone with his Asian accent.
Iβve got 2 calls saying he was from Liverpool Victoria regarding my life insurance and that he could give me a better deal . As I was at work I asked him to phone me back tonight but now reading all comments Iβm not trusting him and blocked this number. Appreciate people finding time to write reviews coz they are so helpful so thank you and at this rate Iβve got more blocked numbers than contacts π
Try β01759 373739β¬, just got a call of it
