This is most definitely a scam, albeit a very advanced one. I answered this number, the automated service that answered already had my date of birth, account balance, and name. I confirmed my name, DOB, acc no and sort code with the man who answered. He said he needed 2 digits of my telephone/internet banking security number, to which I said that I should never have to give this to an actual person. He tried convincing me that he was in fact from HSBC and that to find out why they were ringing me I had to give him this info. I told him no, hung up, and rang HSBC back on their official contact number. The man I spoke to at HSBC said that this (03452500612) was not an HSBC number but that the collections dept. was in fact trying to get in touch with me (nothing serious just confirming I'm still using the account, I hadn't made a transaction in a while), and he also confirmed that HSBC would NEVER ask for my security numbers over the phone. So this scammer has a lot of my details, and knows that HSBC was trying to reach me and is utilising that info to get my security details. IF YOU GET A CALL FROM THIS NUMBER, HANG UP AND CALL HSBC DIRECTLY WITH THE SECURE PHONE NUMBER ON THEIR WEBSITE. NEVER GIVE OUT ANY SECURITY DETAILS UNLESS IT IS AN AUTOMATED SERVICE ON A LEGITIMATE HSBC NUMBER THAT YOU DIALLED!
