That is why they are rude. The telemarketer will work for many companies and not just tv license. They are hunting people down for money, even when it is not owed.

I think the original poster may be right-it's a third party call centre working for tv licensing, rather than tv licensing themselves. Don't answer regardless if you owe or not. You cannot trust any company over the phone these days where cold calling and scams are so common. If it's important and you owe money, they'll leave a message, or you'll be sent out a letter on how much you owe. If you are worried your license will be unregistered,call the number on the official tv licensing website or email them. If you do not owe anything, don't bother answering this number, and if your phone allows you to, simply block the number if they continuously call. They may be aggressive in phoning or asking for money even if not owed, as that's how call centres and staff make money.

Received a call around 6.30pm this evening from a very impertinent man claiming to work for the TV licence. I challenged him as he could have been anyone. He became quite rude. My first direct debit didn't go through so I received a later to say that 2 payments would be collected on the 8th Dec. That was fine. This man desperately tried to talk me into paying for the first payment over the phone, using my bank card. I was feeling harassed by him so in the end I had to say 'this conversation is over, bye bye'. Why the hell are these people allowed to do this???

had a phone call from this number how rude was the man on the line Due to problems with my bank the direct debit didn't go thro so a letter was sent telling me they are going to re submit it in a couple of weeks same day this man phoned demanding my card details or I will be unlicensed I told him I had letter and money will be in bank then but he said that I will be unlicensed and I will get someone knocking on my door and I will get £1000 fined I told him that I am not giving my card details over phone to strangers just cuz he says he is from TV license and that it will be paid as letter states he said so you are refusing to pay when I said no but he is not having my card details and could I speak to someone to complain about him he hung up I never give my card details over the phone but he didn't listen and was so rude and intimating so I'm just waiting now for the knock on the door!!!

Had a call from TV Licensing today at 15:32 regarding my TV License. Unfortunately due to matters out of my control my direct debit for some reason skipped. The man who called (you cannot call him a gentleman), was condescending. He said I had an outstanding amount to which I responded that I received an email and inputted my details in again. I said I have an email confirming this, which I can prove. To which he said he needed it paid now or I would be unlicensed! I said I couldn't now but felt it was a bit fishy as I had the email. He said he would cancel the license and someone would come and beat my door down tonight. Having just had a miscarriage in the family, I lost my temper. However can you imagine if I was a 60 year old person recovering from a stroke and some halfwit trying to make their commission said this? It could kill them. Not that this man probably cares. What is wrong with the world today? When I called back I complained and to be fair they were helpful, but this shouldn't have materialised in the first place. This man definitely should be dismissed for a) cancelling my license when I never refused to pay and b) making the loose threat that he would get someone to beat my door down. I wonder how many other people he does this to? All this from a company who let Saville get away with evil, cruel, disgraceful crimes for years!

TV license fee collection (TV licensing)is now run by Capita, who don't get paid unless it collects the licence fee, hence the late night calls and aggression from Capita employees.
