While I was at the shop someone rang on our landline asking for me ( around 12 noon and apparently a man with an English accent.) My wife answered and as soon as she said I wasn't in the call was abruptly terminated. When I got home a few minutes later I dialled 1471 and then pressed 3 to ring through, all I got was an automated 'The call cannot be connected' message twice in quick succession, then the phone went dead.. Dialled the number myself and again all I got was 'the call cannot be connected'..

When I answered the call there was a few seconds delay before caller came onto the line. This immediately made me suspicious the caller was in a call centre and using muiple call dialing selecting the first person who answered. The male caller had a strong accent, of the type usually associated with the Indian sub-continent. Caller ask me to confirm my identity, and when I stated I do not identify myself to unknown callers he terminated the call. I suspect this is a sales or similar scam.
