I got a message via WhatsAp messages, said it was from Amazon verification and to click a link to get a verification code sent. I happened to be on Amazon at the time and my basket was empty and there was no change to my previous orders so this was some chancer trying their luck. There was a link to click, which I didn't. I've just had a call too. From someone claiming to be from the fraud investigation team. They told me that someone had ordered something on my amazon account for 783 pounds and sent me a Wattsapp 6 digit verification code. Hence to say, I googled the number they were calling from and blocked it. What's so convincing though is that when you google 'Amazon verification Wattsapp code' it says to look for a white tick on a blue background, which my Wattsapp showed. They're becoming very clever so always make more checks. Hope this helps. This number when I googled it belongs to a company called Lumen Technologies. That might be just the cover name that these scammers are working under.
received a call claiming to be amazon from a mobile number, someone had ordered an iphone on my account and they needed me to verify a whatsapp link to confirm and block the transaction, as i was talking to him i googled the number and found this site, also multiple other sites advising it was a scam, Dont click the link and just end the call
Amazon scam call. Refused to provide any detail or acknowledge the whatsapp message was received. The scammer became irate and shouted repeatedly that I should not lie to him. He also mentioned that my 'IP' address was hacked. When I said that he should not take that tone, he hung up.
Amazon prime refund scam. One time passcode what sent to WhatsApp which showed as Amazon. When I refused to share the code caller hung up.
They were from Amazon and somebody had opened an account in my name to order an iPhone. They sent me a verification link. I contacted Amazon and to be brutally honest I received a reply with basically said it wasn't us but it could have been but they can't tell me any more than that. All I wanted to know was was it them. I still have no idea, so I blocked the number just in case.
Heres what happened earlier: - my mum called me asking me if id tried to order anything of amazon because she recieved a code - Later when I was with her (about 3hr later) she recieved an call from an unknown number, her calls are screened and it said "Rebecca Hamilton" which is obv the fake name their using, and claimed to be part of the fraud team from the bank - "Rebecca" was on loudspeaker and said there was some dodgy transactions they declined on her card coming from somewhere far from my mums location (my mum is in South england and she said it happened in Manchester) Heres some things worth pointing out: 1. Rebecca knew who my mum was banking with 2. She knew my mums approx location, but that was the nearby town, not the village she lived in, indicating that the location was retrieved with basic IP tools somehow. 3. She had a London croydon-style accent, sounded about 20-30yrs old. She asked my mum to go to the banks website and get the fraud email and email the whatsapp text to it. Which my mum did, rebecca said to put my mums initials as the subject so she can just search the initials when the email comes through to make it easier to find. As she claimed to looking at the email my mum sent we asked her to read out what it said in order to prove she was from the bank.... She said "sure let me just open that up..." and after some panicking noises she hung up. Mum spoke to bank who was like yeah nah that wasnt us.
