Ditto to all the above! Apparently my line was being hacked by people in russia! Lol! Asked to speak to manager, obviously same person trying to sound different but a total a**. Said id take it up with bt myself (even though not with bt) goodbye...worse thing for me though was visiting my elderly mother, we had just recently lost my dad. And the same number called her whilst i was there saying they are turning of her internet! I told her it was a scam just close the call! Nasty *?!#@*". Mum was real worried!!
Received a call today from 01212855810 said from life insurance team. Started asking questions regarding life cover and my mortgage. Then asked my date of birth so i hung up. I think it was a scam call.
He might as well have used the name fulla shit would have gone with his Asian accent.
I’ve got 2 calls saying he was from Liverpool Victoria regarding my life insurance and that he could give me a better deal . As I was at work I asked him to phone me back tonight but now reading all comments I’m not trusting him and blocked this number. Appreciate people finding time to write reviews coz they are so helpful so thank you and at this rate I’ve got more blocked numbers than contacts 😂
Try 01759 373739, just got a call of it
Whatever you do, don't alow them to persuade you to log on to your pc or 'talk you through' anything as they will probably try to hack it and get passwords etc. Read recently about someone's bank details being accessed this way.
They want you to go online to a site they have set up. They will then direct you to click a few "buttons" on their site and then your computer will be under their control. Bank Accounts, Passwords, Personal photos (always good for Blackmail!), etc
I’m not sure it’s helpful to hear that the scam caller has an ‘Asian’ or ‘Indian’ accent. As if this, in itself, should make us concerned. If you call customer services for Vodafone, O2, etc you may very well get someone with an accent unlike yours. Your mayor or MP might have an accent that could be described as ‘Asian’. We’ve all been screwed over by white American men far more often. Lets start expressing concern when we hear their voices.
Had a call from this bas___d said he was from BT. Ok I said I have set up a password with BT what is it. He put phone down. I usually say to S--t callers what's my password.
I asked him whether he was from an assisted suicide company, and had my children asked him to ring, this seemed to baffle him and he mumbled someting else, decided I was mad, possibly correctly! and put the phone down. I am beginning to enjoy these scm calls and try to waste as much of their time as possible.
Be careful saying yes and ok - because sometimes the scam is they tape your voice and then make it look like you have agreed to buying something from them - we have just had this training at work - so am know very reluctant to say 'yes' or similar when it is a scam.
Got a call from this Bolton number 01204 471167 claiming i needed his help to fix my PC. Strung him along for a bit before he hung up. This weird little man should try another scam as this one clearly isn't working.
The reason you cant call back, is because these are skype numbers that block incoming calls. The original idea of this, was that you could set up a business in india, Thailand, Phillipines etc and it would so as a British number. Ebay for example work this way, as do Barclays. Ever noticed how they call from Mumbai or Davao city and it still comes up with London, Manchester, norwich, ipswich etc etc etc. you wont be able to call these people back. So savour the moment and really waste their time!!!
Answer to poster Steve. BT lines are leased or rented out to other companies. To stop monopolies BT have to do this. The fiber optic cables and copper wires to your house are mostly (75% quoted seems low ro me I would say 90% plus) put in by BT or in some areas which get Virgin fiber optic broadband, Virgin are the ones that dig up the road and put in there own fiber optic cables. The other companies get a deal with the amount of lines rented or leased which is why they can compete with BT. Saying this, BT would not be calling you if you are not with them in any case. I used to work for BT. I have Virgin broadband and have had one of these calls telling me I would be cut off by BT, not sure Virgin would like that.
