Indian accent guy claiming yo be from HMRC. I hung up

Several calls this morning. All I got was silence and then "Goodbye".

Left a voicemail claiming to be hmrc and to call back quoting my national insurance number.

Called me yesterday claiming to be from the VAT office. I have an accountant who deals with my VAT and the HMRC VAT office are aware of its. When I told them the accountant had been registered to deal with my VAT affairs they simply hung up, - Not what I would have expected from the VAT office!!

I had someone call me yesterday saying i owe over £2000 for an over payment, they asked for my name my address and NI Number this is a scam right surely thay would have all my details

not a scam, HMRC returning a call I made to them after agreeing a codeword.

I called HMRC They told me what you write is b.s That it’s a scam And they warn people not to respond but report the number to the police

The number is from HMRC. It is a legitimate HMRC number and Not a scam number as some on here seem to think. If you have rung the tax office recently, they might be contacting you back so please ring and check with HMRC. The caller does say, they will call back at a later date. Hope that helps.
