Yesterday, I had a call from a male who said he was from 02 and that as I was at the end of my contract (true?) I was getting a 'new' iPhone13 with 50% reduction in rental as a long term loyal customer. He also knew ALL my private details from my account!!!???? I told him I DIDN'T WANT THIS PHONE UPGRADE and so he said OK, but as a good will gift, he was sending a FREE Apple watch due to my loyalty to 02!! He then texted a 6 digit number for me to relay it back to him, so as to activate this freebee. As he had ALL my private details from my account (how did he get this??), I believed him to be genuine and so relayed the 6 numbers back!!! BAD MOVE !!!!! After replacing the phone, something didn't seem right and I had a bad feeling. On contacting 02 themselves, it transpired that he wasn’t from 02 but a scammer and by me relaying the 6 numbers back to him, he was able to activate my account and get this iPhone13 to be sent to me. I left instructions with 02 that this item should NOT be sent to me as I DIDN’T want this phone as I'd been scammed. I was told it was in hand that it would be blocked and that their Fraud team would now be investigating this! However, today I checked my account and it seems that 02 hadn’t told what was happening to their Sales & Dispatch teams as they had now sent this Phone out to and it was on its way to me!! On contacting the FRAUD 02 department again today, I was told NOT to accept delivery of this item as if I did, a. This would mean I’ve accepted this phone & activate the new contract and b. They said that the scammers would then ring me the same day as delivery to say it was sent to the wrong address, and I should return it to another address - the scammers!! The problems have now escalated even more as my account has now been changed charging me for this new phone and I'm having problems now trying to get 02 to sort this issue out without much luck so far! Police are now being contacted!! Sorry for the War-&-Peace article but I'd like to warn others of this very elaborate scam :(
