0800 497 0747 Negative Who called me from this phone number?

Domestic & general have hired a bunch of very strange people to spam call people who have bought insurance ontop of purchases from Argos (eg: vacuum cleaners). Ignore these people and even better block them.

You get so fed up with those phone calls.Wish something can be done about it.

Got a call from the number , I answered and no one spoke.

I also gave my address but I was busy and told them to call me back later, i sill not be answering next time they call me, but will we be okay?

Person claimed to be from Domestic & General and had details of 2 appliances that I have insured through D&G. They then asked if I had other appliances and I said no. They then asked if I was the home owner which seemed a strange question so hung up. I have blocked the number now.

Calls quite regularly, I never answer & they don’t leave a message.

I have had calls every day and nobody there. Sometimes in landline E mail and text. Have just had dealings with Domestic and General so it seems to be connected somehow. Glad I am not the only one.

This number 08004970747 keeps phoning my mobile despite I've blocked it at 10:42 this morning the 6th April 2023 I saw in resent calls, I'm sure I've tried phoning it with my number hidden it cuts you off. I thought the gov.uk was meant to be stopping these bogus scam calls. It's getting where I'm expecting a call despite it's from an organisation that have no power to show there number that I do not even trust these, I've asked to unlock there's from the prescription hub. I just wish networks did a lot more to stop these calls because I'm at my wits end I cannot cope with numbers like these, constantly phoning me, one has that PPI thing it doesn't stop them I've a long list of blocked spam/scam numbers it will soon run out of room to put anymore in. The way I really feel is not to have a mobile phone. I got shut of my land line because of these type of callers pretending to be from O2, Virgin Media etc I have no such things. I think it's our networks selling our numbers, I'm on my 10th new sim card the calls keep coming. I cannot take much more.

0800 497 0747. This is a gentleman in Scotland who says he is from Domestic & General (insurance).

When I answered the call he said he was from Domestic and General. He started telling me about the kind of cover D & G provided. I said I knew all about that and asked him to tell me the purpose of his call, or I would hang up . He said he would terminate the call because of my 'attitude'. I guess my 'attitude' = my ability to sniff out someone trying to get money from me.

CALLED ON MY SONS MOBILE SAYING IT WAS DOMESTIC AND GENERAL AND ASKED FOR ME. DIDNT KNOW MY CHRISTIAN NAME ONY INITIAL. MY SON GAVE THEM OUR LANDLINE NUMBER.

Just finished a call from this number. Josh supposedly from Domestic and General asked me for my name which I gave him my middle name he said I had another name when I said yes he asked for confirmation and I refused he kept going on about GDP and proceeded to tell me about a tumble dryer I had purchased which I denied having purchased it ( which I didn't) I then turned the tables and said if he couldn't tell me which bank the insurance was being taken out of I would report the call as a scam and he seemed to go a little sheepish so I hung up. A male English voice asked to speak to Mrs ***** (my name.) I said, "Speaking " and he hung up. The number displayed was 08004970747

Genuine call from Domestic & General Engineer who was on his way to check a problem with our washing machine.

Claimed to be from Direct General Insurance ringing me with a reduced rate for insurance and knew I bought an oculus from Argos. Started to ask details about address and I queried who they were and lime went dead. Man with a northern English accent - sounded very convincing.

Came up on mobile as Domestic & General so answered it. After long pause, English man asked to speak to (my title and surname). Asked him what it was about and he replied he was calling from D&G in regards to the insurance I have on my (named brand) hob. This is not a recent policy, or recent purchase like lots of the comments here, I've had this policy for several years. Then said for security reasons could I confirm my full name. I said I'm not confirming anything, you called me, and he hung up.

I haven't answered the (several) calls from 0800 497 0747 and they haven't left a voicemail. After checking on here I am glad that I haven't!

Had a couple of missed calls from this number. I've recently purchased a couple of items from Argos, like the other commenters, but I've taken out no guarantees or given any details. I paid an card so I wonder if there's some sorta data selling going on. I'm also with D&G which again leads me to believe a database of phone numbers and names has been sold to these people.

Rang twice in the past week and both times I was asleep. It didn't wake me up though because the phone was on silent, which is unfortunate because I'm incontinent. They may have been able to stop me completely soaking the bus seat.

Phoned my mobile number twice recently. As I have an account with one of those mentioned it may have been easy to be fooled but I never accept unsolicited calls on my mobile. Like some others I do wonder how they get our numbers? Norfolk.

I had same experience, Opened the call asking are they speaking to (my name) then said who they were and about the insurance ei took out on my lawnmower. Asked me for security question "to confirm my first name" which I found weird as they already told ME my name haha, and my first line of address. This is when I challenged why are they calling and apparently "to say thankyou that wanna give me the upgraded version" I terminated the call. I'm assuming some kind of scam but not 100% sure cos I didn't stick around to find out

Had five missed calls in a week and caller didn’t leave a message. Having read that the genuine D & G don’t know this number I will block it.

Call claiming to be from domestic and general. ‘Josh’ the pushy sales person wanted me to buy more cover for appliances in my home. I declined. Unanswered as the call is made at random times to my Microsoft Teams number. As its an 0800 number I do not answer on my work system. I will report to internal IT. However, I have received over 6 call over the past two weeks now.

This number rang both myself and my husband - left voice mails twice but nothing on the voice mail just a beep. I was quite concerned after reading these comments because we have recently bought a new washer and oven from Argos - and we have taken out guarantees with both the manufactures (which my husband did). My concern is how do they know both my mobile number and my husbands - The Argos account is in my name and the guarantees are in my husband's name - so who is leaking contact details?

Called yesterday, easy to believe this is a Genuine caller as English man nice voice said he was from Domestic and General. He mentioned Argos and I do have a policy with them, because I wasn’t sure I just said “ Sorry I believe there are scams about this so if you want to get in touch with me, you’ll have to do it by letter, goodbye!

Keeps calling at all different time's when I answer hung up other times said they are D&G bit they have a completely different number to this so I knew it could not be them. I do have several polices with them so it's so easy to believe them when they call.

This phone number is a scam. But sounds very convincing as it is a well spoken English person. I fear that trusting elderly people WOULD fall for this scam. They pretended to be Domestic & General wanting me to take out further policies. BLOCK this phone number, as I did....

3 calls since a week on this number to my mobile, I did not answer incase it is a fraud call.

It was a male caller, knew my name. He said he was calling from Domestic and General about a purchase I made from Argos. I had just received some insurance documents from Dome and Gen so I knew what he was saying to me was incorrect, he said I was not insured for those things. I said well I think you are a scammer. Thankfully I gave him no bank details but I did give him my address.

I know this is a scam I get this a lot on my mobile never answer it.

One call to my mobile number in the am every day for over a week. I’d like to know how they got my number. I don’t answer calls I don’t recognise, nonetheless it’s an annoyance I could do without. Sick of Companies selling numbers onto another.

This number called me claiming to be from D and G. I listened to the dodgy voice and knew it was a scam and told them reporting to bizzys

Exactly the same thing just the minute happened to me!

I just rang D&G as we do have insurance with them. They do not know the number and the agent said it's definitely a Rouge trader. Do not give them any info and if you have, tell D&G right away about the situation. If you gave them nothing, just block the number

Constantly calling so I eventually picked up stated they were From Domestic & General they were just checking my Argos Insurance for items I had with them. Them asked me for my Address etc. when I told them well you should have these and I don’t give these out THEY PUT THE PHONE DOWN DO NOT TELL THEM ANYTHING

Claimed to be from Domestic & General. Only knew my husbands name but had my number. Asked for my husband's number(!) I refused. Told me he could see we had a policy with D&G on a fridge freezer. And wanted to get us a better deal. I said I would Google D&G number and call them directly. He got very irritated. I suggested he gets a job that doesn't involve scamming people and he hung up.

After I had just bought an item from Argos they knew my details of my order and I had asked for appliance care in Argos website before checkout so it is legit and they do not work directly for Argos they cooperate with Argos

Rang 6 times in the space of 10 mins. First call was at 8 pm. Not answered . Blocked number.

Domestic and general, claimed to be related with insurance for two items purchased in Argos. Asked for my name and surname and also my address, after that started to ask me random questions about appliances at home, like washing machine, fridge, oven. Asked her to be called later, since I didn't have time to talk right now.
