A [fairly] convincing scam. I wasn't on any suspicious site or installing any dodgy app. Left my laptop for 5 mins and the screen filled with warning messages and an exhortation to call 'Microsoft Support'. Ended the session using altctldelete, restarted, disconnected from Internet and am now checking every active app to find the cause.
I also believe this is a bogus number purporting to be Microsoft. It certainly doesn't appear to be a genuine Microsoft number. The apparent fake Microsoft information popped up while trying to read a VIAUG story called "Locals Find Tank In River". The pop up information managed to shut me out of my computer while a recorded message attempted to panic me into ringing this number while an alarm siren sounded off in the background. I had to undertake a forced shut down and restart of my computer to get access back to my search engine and all of my documents. I likewise suspect this is most probably a scam
This is a bogus number, purporting to be Microsoft customer support. It appears after an attempt to read a 'Reach Devon Life story and is clearly a scam. It has been reported to Reach who hazve done nothing about it.
