I received a call asking for me by my full name. Said they were calling from Barclays and asked me for date of birth which I gave and then asked for my mother's maiden name which I didn't give as something seemed off to me. When I asked what the call was regarding, they said personal banking and asked if I use the banking app on my phone. I asked again what the call was regarding and was told they are unable to tell me until I've answered the security questions. I didn't continue the conversation further and said I'll call them back later.
Scam, They ask for your sort code or account number or security questions which would give them access to your account. I called them back just to have a go at them, the fucking low lifes!!
Just received a call from this number. It was a very bad line and was noisy. They knew both my first and surname. Said they were calling from Barclays and asked for my mother's maiden name and date of birth. When I asked what the call was regarding, they said personal banking and that I could use the mobile banking app to verify the call was from Barclays or hang up and call them back. I trusted my instincts and hung up. I didn't give any information and nothing came through the app.
Scam call. Claimed to be from Barclays. Noisy, poor quality phone line, did not sound professional. Don't know how they knew my surname. They said they were going to send something to the mobile app 'for verification' but then they just put the phone down and nothing came to the app.
I received a call from this number this afternoon. Very poor English, sounded like she was reading from a script. She knew my surname but I wasn't convinced. Put the phone down and contacted Barclays, they said they hadn't contacted me by phone at all. Tried to report it to the Action Fraud website but they weren't interested. JUST HANG UP.
they are getting smarter, they knew my first name and last name, but addressed me by the wrong name ( i only use with the bank). please be aware people, NEVER give out personal information to someone who has phoned you, regardless of who they say they are .
0800 161 5248 checked in person with Barclays & they declare it a scam. Do not be fooled do reveal any information & hang up.
