Please - If you do not recognise a number do not answer it, do no reject it, let it ring off.
If it is legitimate they will leave a message and you can choose to call back or not.
If, as is often the case, it is a PPI/have you had an accident/other selling scam and you answer or reject the call you confirm that your's is an active number and they will pass/sell your details on to other like minded scammers.

Had numerous calls from this number and another 0333 number but ending in 77, I'm giving up answering it if it's one of them now because there is never anyone on the other end and they just hang up on me anyway, heard it could be 02, ppi or some injury claim company, honestly? I don't know but if I could meet the company behind it I'd shove my phone down their throat, these calls are driving me mad as they can be as early as 7am on a morning up to 10pm at night, hopefully my ignoring tactic will give them the idea that I ain't intrested

Really wish something would get done about these nusance calls. Ive got a list as long as your arm on my reject list. Just added this number to it. Like everyone else no message left no answer when rung back.

Simply don't answer any out of town numbers at all. If they're not in your phone book then you don't need to talk to them.
Block them all as I do after I've Googled them.

Just had call from this number but was driving & another call was being taken hands free just heard beep noise unable to see who it was as phone was in my pocket. Will now block it after reading messages here

got this call tonight, was a recorded message saying hi we have tried to contact you a number of times about your PPI pess 1 if you have made a claim and 9 if ou havn't. i hung up and blocked the number
