This phone number is used in emails supposedly from Student Loans Company (SLC). Asking for evidence of students living away from home under the email address of [email protected] asking for screenshots of tenancy agreements and bank statements which include your name, sort code and account number! SLC will never ask for sensitive/financial details by email. So clearly a scam!
Does anyone know of this number is legit? I have received this email and I’m unsure as to what to do
I just rang the Student Loans Company after having the same worry and it is legit, apparently, it's completely random but it is a legit email from SLC
Yeah can also confirm this is legit. Very annoying as there is no mention of a sample check team on the gov website, so I've just wasted 15 mins of my life on hold just to ask if it is them.
Hey I'm worried about this email that I received for the elsewhere evidence. [email protected] - the number included was 0300 100 0081. I will call up tomorrow just in case. Do you know whether this is a scam? Or is it real?
Daughter also got this email asking for evidence in the form of tenancy agreements and banks details, surely in this day of internet fraud the government and SLC could think up a better way of doing this , Random checks smacks of total scam to me
got an email fro elsewhere evidence with this number 0300 100 0081 has anyone submitted their details yet/ or phoned them.
Got the text message and we received the email also. thought a complete scam. if it is legit maybe they should resend a message cancelling the campaign and approach it a different way. there should be a clear advanced warning to all students that this will be done or proper information on SFE site also officially stating how, when this is done.
I told my son not to send anything just yet until it is all clarified. It is absurd to expect students to be sending personal documents or bank statements from an email not even asking to validate. They should perhaps have done it via the SLC website where you log into your own account to submit documentation not some randome email address
Got this email and instantly went to search to see if it was a scam. Looks like it's probably not a scam but I will NOT be sending any information until they address this. The fact that they would even ask for personal details like bank details over email is extremely worrying. Won't be doing anything about this until they re-approach the way they have done this check.
I have been contacted by them too. I’m worried to send my tenancy agreement etc to them. I called them up and they said it is legit but I’m still not certain.
My daughter and all her flat mates have had the email - I can’t see how it can be a random selection. she will not be replying to it, but will wait for the letter they’re suppose to send when you’ve not responded to email. If you’ve phoned the number on the email, the person answering is bound to say it’s authentic as they want you to reply to the email. There is no way you should be sending bank details and address details by this unsecure method.
I revived a letter through the post and rang up student finance and it is legit apparently
Has all the hallmarks of a scam - random texts and emails with incorrect grammar and asks for bank details and tenancy agreements to be sent via email. No prior notification to student accommodation and universities and goes against the advice of the SFE website which states they will never ask for personal bank details via email. However, SFE upon phoning advise it is legitimate - I don't believe it is safe to send such documents via email. SLC were affronted when questioned about students thinking this could be a scam! Apparently it is a random check to see if students are living away from home in which case a tenancy agreement should suffice or a receipt from student accommodation or a landlord. Cannot see why a bank statement is needed.
I also received this email last week. I didn't call the number in the email, instead I called Student Finance England general enquiries (0300 100 0607) and they said it's legit. They also said that this is the first year that they're doing this, so in future years they might rethink how they conduct a sample check as it obviously seems like a scam to ask us through email.
My daughter also received an 2 emails, which I asked her not to reply until I call Student Finance to find out if they are genuine as I thought the email address was SCAM. I called Student Finance today, phone number -https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/student-loans-company/about Student Loans Company 100 Bothwell Street Glasgow G2 7JD General Enquiries 0141 306 2000 I spoke to an advisor and I can confirm that the email address: [email protected] is legit. I did say that my daughter won't send any bank details by email but they do accept other evidence like receipts or email for confirmation of accommodation. If you send bank detail statement you can blackout bank account and sort code with a marker. They only need proof of name and amount paid for accommodation. I did also mention that the email address looks very suspicious. They are very helpful and are taking all comments on board for improvement. Hope this can help.
