HMRC number charged me 50 pound just to place 1 call but when I rang up it was a free number first then changed this
I wanted to ring up HMRC. I looked up their number on the internet. I rang up the first number Google returned. 5 seconds into my call, before I had even spoken to anyone, it struck me that I had just rung an 0900 number, which didn't "ring true" to me. So I hung up immediately. I then went on to internet and found the real HMRC number, without going through the costly intermediary operated by Telecom2 who provide a "call connection service". The 5-second call cost me £4.20. Call me stupid if you will, but I'd rather be stupid than unscrupulous. The unscrupulousness of some some people is truly saddening.
