Got a text with the information of a valid transaction & all the correct info. I called Capital One to confirm because it being from a mobile number worried me. Turns out it was legit, but I guess don’t take my word for it & check before replying to any text like this! Annoying there wasn’t more info from Capital One online about this.
Legit from capital one. Text mentioned a transaction of £0.00 to Amazon and asked for my reply. I ignored the text and called capital one directly who confirmed the transaction in my account. Blocked and created a new card. The transaction didn't appear in my app - still call them to be safe.
Don't ignore. It was Capital. Ring the number 03330004323
Got a text message from this number claiming to be from capital one saying that a possible fraudulent purchase on my account had been attempted for £0.00. They knew the last 4 digits of my credit card! Also they have my number, which I rarely give out. This strongly suggests they really are capital one. They requested I replied VALID or FRAUD in reference to the attempted transaction. I replied FRAUD then got a message saying they will ring me within 24 hours! It would be extraordinarily unwise policy for capital one to do this, so this now strongly suggests it's a scammer. Also there are no attempted transactions in my account. So I'm conflicted and I cannot get hold of capital one at this time of night. I certainly won't be answering that number tomorrow. In fact it's getting blocked. I would not necessarily trust other comments on here
I had the same thing and called Capital 1. It was them.
I received a text message from 07883 305092 as well, telling me that a payment had been attempted from a company called Doordash.com, but it was for 0.00 pence. I thought it might be a scam so didn't reply to it, but I did phone Capital One on a number I trusted, and it was a genuine text. They cancelled my card and have issued a new one, and blocked the company from attempting any further transactions. That's the point - the first attempt was for nothing, but they obviously had my card number so it had to be reported. It's a strange way for a credit card company to contact you though, isn't it - especially with how many scams there are out there today?
Surprisingly this is a genuine text from Capital One. I called the main support number and they were very helpful explaining what the issue was. I still think its very poor practice to use a text for this. They should at least notify you via the app, email and by online message. So I told them so :-)
Genuine from Capital One. Recurring annual payment I'd forgotten about. Checked last year's statement and then remembered previously querying this payment!
From CapitolOne. I ignored it at first, some random number. Logged in to check activity and it matched so that scared me. Since they had my card number, transaction history and obviously my phone number. If it was a scam they had earned it so I replied fraud, and locked the card. TL:DR Lady on the phone said when you get a new card apparently some companies will charge you £0.00 to verify the card. So if that's you, let it ride.
Text message allegedly from Capital one saying if transaction was genuine or fraud. This text was made from a mobile phone. Do not respond or call the number! they will know you use the card either way. Always contact the Capital one number on your card.
Received message saying a purchase of £0.00 had been raised by Amazon and to text back it it was valid or fraud. I was suspicious so checked my Capital One app and the amount did show on my account. Text back fraud and recieved a call from Capital One to say they would cancel it. The mobile number therefore, appears genuine
I receiced this message from +4407883305092 This is a Capital One fraud check for card ending ****. A £1.00 purchase was made on 27/01/2023 at 12:09:07 at GOOGLE *TEMPORARY HOLD. If this was you please reply VALID, if not reply FRAUD. Block and reported!
Because the amount was correct I called the capital one and they confirmed that the message is genuine
I received a message from the above number, asking me to verify if a purchase was genuine or not by texting back VALiD or FRAUD. I rang Capital One on the number on the back of my card. The message was from Capital One. The benefit of this call was that they found another transaction with Amazon, which was supposed to have been paid in 4 instalments, yet Amazon had charged me in full and taken out the instalment as well, so a positive outcome.
