Asian female informing me that I was due to a refund from my washing machine insurance. I don't have any such insurance. When she asked if I was the person she thought she was calling I said 'No' but she continued anyway. I told her that it was great that I was getting a refund. First she had to confirm my address - I told her to send me a cheque before she got round to asking for my bank details. She was clearly perplexed but said she would send a cheque. Perhaps she sensed a little sarcasm in my response. I won't hold my breath!
As with all numbers not in my contact list, I let the answerphone pick it up. No message left, so assumed it was a scam. Looking at comments, I was correct in my assumption!
Call from someone I could barely understand but who was apparently offering me a refund of £190 for my Homeserve? Suggested that they wrote to me - call ended!
Caller said I had a homecare rebate for £100. He wanted my bank details but I would not give him these. I asked him for the last 4 digits of my account and sort code but he said he could not provide these becsaue of data protection. He new my address so I said send me a cheque and ended the call.
Told me she was from BT broadband and that my IP address had been changed from private to public, so that "anyone can use my internet". Kept asking what she meant by "my internet", explained to her about public and private IP addresses not being either/or, but that like everyone I have both, one on WAN side and one on LAN, so she hung up.
Had a call today 16/05/22 from this number. It was a lady with an Indian accent saying she was contacting me concerning my BT Openworld account. I informed her I wasn't with BT but then she tried to make out that this covered all internet accounts. I told her this was clearly a scam and put the phone down immediately.
Reported to TPS as an unsolicited business call but really I suspect it is a scam - the Indian sounding voice told me that I was entitled to a refund of £199 from my Washing Machine insurance (how lovely! considering I don't HAVE any washing machine insurance.) I said thank you very much... and was going to have a go when she just hung up. Scary stuff. Obviously a scam. The company is GTH - Gamma Telecom Holdings Ltd FYI for anyone wishing to report to TPS. Their Government registered profile at companies house: https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/04287779 https://www.gamma.co.uk Have at them!
Woman saying I have overpaid on my household appliance insurance as I don't have any I told her to remove my number from their database and I was reporting them to action fraud
Number not recognised so did not answer. No message left….just another annoying/harassing call !
01439 339268 - Silent call this time. Two weeks ago, that same number called me to help with my "faulty" internet connection. These scammers are so boring.
Stating calling from Vigin Media regarding unlawful actions on my internet connection??. Spoke with Sub-Continent accent, poor English and bad phone line connection. Hung up when I realised it was a scam call. Unsure how an Indian call centre can tap into a Helmsley (North Yorkshire) area telephone code!
Today, 22/4/22. Called by man with strong accent claiming to be a Virgin media engineer and reporting trouble with my internet connection. I suspected a scam and told him that I was elderly and deaf and he could ring later when someone else was here. I put down phone. Checked number on line, and now have blocked it.
tried to "refund" my washing machine warranty!! clearly a phishing scam from asian female voice.BEWARE SCAM
I took a very kind call on my landline from ‘my Broadband provider’ telling me there’s a problem with my internet connection, etc and they can help me fix it…. How very, very lovely of them! What they don’t realise is I know my broadband provider will NEVER call about a connection problem, or anything else for that matter. So, being extremely ‘scam-aware’ my built in bullshit detector went off the scale, and rather than tell them politely to f&#k off, as I usually do, I decided I was in the mood to have a bit of fun. My well-to-do old lady voice switched on and my ‘husband George, the infuriating, archaic old fool’ came out of his cryogenic slumber just for the occasion. I managed to keep this shamelessly immoral scammer on the ‘phone for over 20 minutes, even bringing George in to help me (actually dear, he has also noticed our internet hasn’t been working properly for a while - the silly old thing is into these On-line Zumba classes’) because I couldn’t find my glasses, and the battery in my hearing aid was running out. I was writing down all of the kind Lady’s instructions, in order to repeat them back accurately to her, to show I was listening and let her believe I was really inputting them correctly as she kindly guided me through entering them into the Windows+R run bar of my laptop. So helpful. How lovely. It wasn’t a great line, due to a sound somewhat similar to scratching plastic and rustling paper whenever I was speaking - which apparently was my fault..?! Then my “silly mobile telephone (which one doesn’t really want but the Daughter said is needed because of the Gin) is vibrating; because I’m really rather hard of hearing you see, my dear and I might not hear it ring”, so I sent George off to answer it because I was busy trying to help the nice lady to help us to get the internet mended - and, as I told the nice lady from India, with a Helmsley UK telephone number, he’s quite a useless old sod really but after 50 years, one is used to having him around. Poor Mrs Virgin Media was getting more and more irate and impatient, and quite rude as I kept repeating things back with nothing working. Cue ‘George’, with a puzzled look - would Mrs Virgin Media mind holding on a moment… “don’t be a ridiculous old fool George; they can’t be on that line if I’m speaking to them on the land line! What do you mean they are scammers?” Me to Mrs Virgin Media: “My dear, are you a Scammer..?” Line: disconnects. Such Fun! Please everyone - tell your friends and relatives, regardless of their age, your broadband provider, your bank, etc will NOT call you first. If these scammers call, say you’re busy and you’ll call them back. DON’T give away any personal information. DON’T get scammed. But, maybe, have a bit of fun if you fancy it.
Called today 16/4/2022 saying problems with internet. Hung up straight away and checked the number. BEWARE11
