Told me they were calling on behalf of British Gas and that they needed to organise a meter replacement as ours was faulty. They did know our correct supplier not BG and were very persistent even after I said my preferred date was in 2027. The engineer also fitting my smart meter thought it was hilarious too. The lady still didn’t give up and couldn’t tell me when my current meter was fitted because she was in accountants and just knew our bills were excessively high. I got bored and told her I would call my power company directly and she said of course call me back on this number. Impressively persistent, no swearing and managed to adapt the script from my dodgy answers if she had given her name I would have left a 5* scammer review
Missed their call so called back - "It's regarding your meter replacement" - I said "No thanks" and hung up!
They told me my meter was faulty and that it needed replacing. I am with Octopus and have been experiencing no problems with my readings or meter so obviously a scam of some kind. They knew I was with Octopus and mentioned my first name so have access to my basic account details. I told them to never ring me again.
