You should never really try to call unknown numbers back. They Could well be running a premium line scam, whereby you are charged stupid amounts of money just for ringing the number

Claimed to be from Vodafone. When challenged they immediately hung up.
Rang but I don't answer unknown calls. Looking at previous comments, probably a scam as I'm not with the phone networks others have mentioned.

Claimed to be calling from Vodafone to offer a discount on my monthly bill. Wanted me to provide lots of information which a genuine Vodafone call-centre would already know. When challenged, they hung up!
