Called and was declined by me 3 times. Message left said Lloyds Bank regarding a payment they declined and as everyone else’s stated that they needed to do a security check. Personally I never answer messages like this because Banks should know that their advice about cyber security is never give anything so I never give anything. Having looked at the reports on this website it suggests it may be legitimate but that said giving over security information to people who I don’t know just sounds like a stupid idea or the beginning of a slippery slope that may lead me to make a mistake later on. Therefore, my plan is always contact My Bank via number I choose and ask them directly and then we can exchange information in a manner that I’m more happy about because I initiated the call. Sadly we seem to be in a period where we can’t rely on any numbers because they get cloned and diverted. Perhaps online digital banking might shoot itself in the foot because of these problems. Hey ho! If you can’t take a joke, perhaps we shouldn’t have joined?
They were the HALIFAX BANK
Totally legitimate caller. Confirming to check I made an online payment to Amazon US. All automated. No personal bank details asked for except birthday to confirm it’s me. I get these calls about 4 times per year.

I tried to make an online payment, my bank blocked the valid transaction. They did so twice. A "one-time" up sales offer for a digital marketing product. A few minutes later I received a call from this number 02039096758 stating they were calling from my bank since the bank blocked a payment twice (and the sum in GBP) my payment would have been in US dollars , so total amount in GBP appear legit. They then asked for birth date, but stated they will NOT ask for any log in user names or log in details or security details. I did enter my birth date as the timing of the call and the details given matched my both my failed payment attempts. They then stated I can retry to make the payment in 10 mins as I had wanted to make this payment. After the call I felt a bit at unease after all. I would never ever normally give any details to automated calls, now I had given birth date. So I checked the phone number. Does not belong to my bank but to Gamma Telecom Plc. Checked gamma telecoms website, and it is a valid company providing services online giants and UK gov. So feel more at ease. I logged into my bank and checked any outgoing pending payments, nothing that should not be there. So all in all. Everything APPEAR VALID. I assume my bank is using Gamma Telecom Plc services. Gamma telecoms website suggest they are providing automated services to make business transactions more human and safer and better. The only disturbing part is that they presented themselves as my bank, and that my bank clearly gives access to payment attempts and some personal information.
